Mornings at the Bangalore Steiner School are always colourful. On this particular Saturday (26th Oct), it was the parents streaming in with their scarves, dupattas, saris and shirts, cutting bits of fabric from old memories and piecing it together, creating new ones at the Quilting Workshop. The hum and chatter was all about the Christmas Bazaar, coming up in a few weeks.
A few doors away, another group had gathered, these parents were quieter - chopping, carving, chiseling and sanding in the stillness of the morning. The Woodworking workshop had a group of twenty or so parents crafting an array of spoons, cup hangers, soap holders and games of tic-tac-toe. Learning to use new tools such as the “Gouge” (the group favourite) and learning new skills, everyone was working hard and having a lot of fun together.
The Quilting and Woodworking workshops were the first in a series of workshops for the community to come together and create beautiful pieces of art for the much loved Christmas Bazaar every year at Bangalore Steiner School. As we use our head, heart, and hands, working together, we feel the warmth of the community and the spirit of Christmas building up to the festive season.
There are several other workshops lined up across November. Watch this space for more.
Note: This blog post was contributed by a parent of the school, beautifully capturing her experience at the Workshops.
