Nature walk for young children
The nature walk is one of the favourite periods of the week for Grades 1 and 2, and they truly look forward to it. A quiet walk out of the gate to enjoy nature and observe little creatures without disturbing them is one of the best parts of the experience. Of course, watching them climb trees and make up their own little games is beautiful to witness.

Gardening block for Grade 3 children
Gardening in Grade 3 is a brand-new experience for the children. They are so enthusiastic about the whole process, from ploughing the patch to growing vegetables. Each team patiently waits for their turn to plough. They also tried loosening the soil using sticks and stones, just as they had heard about in one of the stories in class.

Knitting needles by parents of Grade 1 children
Knitting needle making workshop for parents!!! Learning with Heart and Hands One of the beautiful traditions in Waldorf education is that the knitting needles used by Grade 1 children are lovingly made by their own parents. Before little hands begin to knit, parents gather in a workshop to carve, sand, shape, and polish a simple pair of wooden needles with care and intention. More than a craft activity, this workshop is a meaningful rite of preparation. As each needle is shap

My Journey as an Educator and Waldorf Kindergarten
The Living Rhythm of the Kindergarten In my first year of teaching at BSS, I found myself stepping into the quiet wonderland of kindergarten. In my previous workplace, much of my work centered on guiding older children toward their board examinations, but the kindergarten offered me a place of calm and steady ground. Here, the day unfolded in a gentle rhythm, lovingly woven with moments of breathing in and breathing out. Within this living flow of activity and rest, song and

G10 Math mini survey: using Trigonometry
The motley crew of G10 Students joined me on a math journey for a couple of afternoons after they had completed their GCSE exams for some fun practical learning. I wanted to show how the theoretical knowledge they had gained during the year for the academic papers could actually be applied in real life. To that end, they built their own home made inclinometers (clinometer) which measures base angle, measured base distances and using the information were then able to calculate

Christmas Bazaar at BSS
Christmas Warmth at the Bangalore Steiner School (Described by one of our parents) Christmas celebrations at the Bangalore Steiner School began with a band of angels in harmony, singing Christmas songs from around the world. Coloured banners and streamers flapped in the breeze and framed the setting on this cool yet sunny day. Parents and friends sat around the stage, watching the children on stage as each class performed a song, whisking them away to a magical place. The a

Handmade Applique Quilt – A Community Creation
Our BSS community came together for a special project led by our head of administration and Ammas for this year’s Christmas bazaar — a handmade quilt created with love, teamwork, and creativity. After a discussion with our Handwork teacher, materials were gathered and the Ammas learned the art of quilt-making, working on it during their free time. Raku Clay & Copper workshops by Bernard Graves
Recently, at the Bangalore Steiner School, a group of enthusiastic learners got together to experience the fine art of Raku from master craftsman, Bernard Graves. “As you shape the clay, the clay shapes you,” Bernard told the participants gathered, “the process of creating ceramics is a metamorphosis.” Indeed, over the course of the four days, the crafters experienced a transformation of the clay, and within. The Metamorphosis Larva : Crafters used their hands to work the cla

Shawn reminisces on his time at BSS
A Framework for Life: How BSS Shaped the Person I Am Today Hi, as I begin this reflection, stepping back into the BSS community, even virtually, brings a flood of fond memories. It will soon be a decade since I graduated in 2016, and I’m genuinely excited to share how my time at BSS truly shaped not just my career path, but the person I am today. BSS was, in my opinion, the place that helped me break out of my shell. Coming from a mainstream school environment, it was a night
