Annual sports week/day 2025

Through the eyes of one of our students:

The first week of December, more commonly known as “Sports week” in Bangalore Steiner School is a truly awaited event of the year, filled with passion, strength and hope. This journey began at the beginning of this academic year, as the participants gathered and the teams were selected, along with their respective captains. The four teams, Vayu, Jala, Agni, and Prithvi, each symbolising an element that helps us connect within ourselves. They remind us that in order to achieve something great, you need to work together, as a team.

Weeks of intense practice was put in by each participant, whether it was under a sunny blue sky or a gray drizzle. The goal was simple- do your best. Although this time, the rains were on and off, pouring through the hazy, cold sky and onto the ground as we tried our very best not to let it affect the games, and hoped it would soon cease.

Our Annual Sports week is a mix of outdoor sports (Javelin, discus, long jump, running, hurdles etc.) and indoor sports (Chess, Carrom, table tennis etc.), giving the participants multiple options and the freedom to choose whichever sport they are most comfortable with.

On the final day of the week, we began with a ceremony for the chief guest and a flag hoisting. The houses assembled to begin marching, and an oath taking ceremony was then held for the house teachers, as well as the participants. The houses then gathered with their respective captains and began to warm up, preparing for the eventful day.

The events began to start, hurdles being the very first one. The excited cheers of each child soon filled the air as one by one, the qualifiers lined up and competed in consecutive events. Through all the successes and disappointments, each participant was unconditionally supported by their friends, whether they were in the same team or not, showing true sportsmanship in each contestant.

The final event was one that was well awaited as all participants greatly looked forward to it- the House Relay. After all the events took place, the calculations for each team began, and the participants assembled, eagerly waiting to hear which house claims the trophy for the year. After a long wait, it was announced that Agni house won the trophy, the proud faces of each member of the team gleaming as their hard work finally paid off.

The fourth annual sports week at Bangalore Steiner School was a week to remember, filled with passion, trust, and hard work, all put in by the students and our teachers who in the end became their own team. It was a week of competition, participation and showcasing immense dedication, and preparing us students for more victories and losses that are yet to come into our lives.

Through the eyes of one of our teachers:

Faster, Higher, Stronger – Together” — a motto that found true expression during the Annual Sports Week 2025, held in early December. A much-anticipated event in the school calendar, the week brought students together in a meaningful display of athletic skill, teamwork, resilience, and school spirit.

Students, divided at the beginning of the year into the four houses — Prithvi, Vayu, Agni, and Jala — came together to represent their teams with pride. Every morning of the week, the ground buzzed with action as each team gave their best for the heats.

Javelins cut graceful arcs through the sky, hurdle jumps drew gasps from the watchers, and the track came alive with swift sprints, powerful discus throws, and determined shot put efforts. In every event, students gave their best, cheered on with enthusiasm and encouragement, regardless of the outcome, celebrating effort and perseverance as much as results.

During the week, students also displayed active responsibility and ownership. From marking lines on the field to clearing stones and preparing the grounds, they worked together to ensure everything was ready.

The sports week culminated in the sports day. The day was opened with flag hoisting, followed by a disciplined march past accompanied by students playing the band music, filling the air with coordination and rhythm. With a few wise words from the chief guest and teachers, the day was declared open. Rain had threatened to be a spoiled sport but never managed to dampen the spirit of the day as the cheers, encouragement, and unwavering enthusiasm continued under cloudy skies.

The field came alive with action and excitement. All the qualified players from each team gave their best at each event. One of the most exciting moments was the house relay, where teamwork and coordination mattered as much as speed. The house relay

called forth learning to blend different strengths, harmonise qualities, and work in unison towards a common goal — a powerful lesson even beyond the field.

The spirit of inclusivity shone brightly as sports extended beyond students. A special event was organised for teachers, admin, ammas, and bus drivers, adding joy, laughter, and a strong sense of community to the occasion.

The days were filled with cheers, tears, joy, and invaluable learning moments. Points were earned not just for being the fastest or throwing the furthest, but also for marching grace, discipline, and teamwork, reinforcing the idea that sports has as much to do with character as it does with skill.

As the final results were announced, Team Agni emerged victorious, flaming with joy as they lifted the trophy. The other houses followed closely behind, with only marginal differences in points, proving how fiercely competitive and evenly matched all teams were.

Faster. Higher. Stronger. Together.
